re: perchlorate sublimation comparison

Not sure if I ever sent you this 3-up comparison from the sample 603.

3 minutes between top and center image, 23 minutes between center and bottom image! 26 minutes top to bottom. REALLY fast sublimation of the ice.

re: magnesium perchlorate hydrate
(7 photos)

Here are the best of today's pics of 603A.

Upon first look it's a uniformly flat surface with pods of ice right along surface level (grey pods in 603A_1).

The ice sublimates fairly quickly (just like we've seen in sulfate hydrates and hydrohalite samples) and is completely gone after about 30 minutes! (Compare 603A_3 and 603A_8.)

Note the patterns in where the ice was located (603A_10). A detail from the left portion of 603A_10 is shown in 11, and again expanded in 12. The Mg perchlorate continues to change a bit, displaying what look like dessication cracks.

At the end of the session I scanned the remaining material by EDS just to confirm it's composition. The only 3 peaks in the spectra (603A_13_eds) are O, Mg, and Cl, as expected.

I left these photos at fairly high resolution so you can zoom in.
